Anri 1979 Christmas plate woodcarving from Italy, The Moss Gatherers of Villnoess, ninth in series edition of 6000. Hand crafted hand painted wood plate is No. 2172. Narrative on the back describes the mountain village traditional holiday scene. The Anri Italy paper label is also on the back. This lovely Anri wooden framed wall hanging plate measures about 11 3/8 inches across (including frame), and is about 1 1/4 inches in depth.
The back of the plate describes how “In the mountain village of Villnoess in the South Tyrol, the manger scene in the Church of St. Magdalena is the very heart of the Christmas observance. To select the softest, greenest moss for the crèche is a holiday task …”. You can see the delightful charming children gathering the moss in the snow with scenic mountains behind.
This vintage Anri Christmas holiday plate is in excellent condition. I see an insignificant small nick/dent in the natural European hardwoods frame here and there, maybe from the handcrafted manufacturing process? There is a tiny pinpoint size white fleck on the brown pants leg up close to the red coat tail of the boy at the bottom of the scene and I think it was handpainted this way (?), but I gave you a close-up photo to review. There is a wire on the back for hanging the plate on the wall.
I do not have the box for this decorative Anri collector plate. I am offering several other Anri plates in this series separately, so please check my other store items to see these.
