Vintage 1978 Christmas plate entitled "Heavenly Trio” from the artist Sister Berta Hummel, made in West Germany copyright by Schmid Bros. in 1977, eighth limited edition. The back of the porcelain china dish says “No doubt the Three Wise men inspired this charming vignette, based upon an original wood block which Sister Berta created in 1928 as her own Christmas card. Each of the three angels has his own offering for the Christ Child – music, light and gifts. Mrs. Viktoria Hummel, the late artist’s mother and legal heir has chosen and authorized this early work as the 1978 Christmas Plate, eighth in the series.” The “Schmid, The Creative Hand” logo is also on the back of the plate.
The charming scene shows three Hummel angels or cherub figurines bearing gifts in hand. The name “Berta Hummel” is printed below the angel figures. “Christmas 1978” is also on the front of the plate.
The box is included, along with a 19 page “Limited Editions Schmid 1979” booklet that has a lot of information about many Hummel collector plates.
This lovely collector plate measures about 7 ¾ inches across. There are holes on the back of the plate to add a wire for hanging.
This hard-to-find Schmid Hummel fine china collector dish is in excellent vintage used condition. The box has a tiny bit of edge/corner wear from being packed away, and some dust/dirt here and there. There are a couple of white paper wear spots on the side of the box where it looks like a label or tag was removed (see photo).
